Do you have a question? Below are answers to the most common questions from our guests.

General questions

What are your opening hours?

Our opening hours are:
Winter time (27 October 2025 - 29 March 2026):
Mon to Fri 9:00 - 17:00
Sun 10:00 - 12:00 (turn in until 17:00)

Daylight saving time (31 March 2026 - 26 October 2026):
Mon to Fri 8:30 - 18:00
Sun 10:00 - 12:00 (turn in until 18:00)

In bad weather during the winter period, we are closed on Sundays, if you still want to cycle, you can call us between 10 and 12 and we will be there within 5 minutes.

Christmas and New Year's Day we are closed.
Every year, we are closed for 2 weeks in January. In 2026, this is from 10 January to 25 January. During this period, it is not possible to collect or return bicycles.

Is there still availability?

Our online stock is always up-to-date. Click on ‘Book Bicycle’ to see immediately which bikes are available on your desired date.

How long is a rental day?

A rental day runs from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM (summer time) or from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (winter time). So not 24 hours! You can pick up and return your bicycle between these times. On Sundays, pick-up is only between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

Can I hire a bike for half a day?
No, in terms of price, we always charge full rental days. Of course, you may pick up your bike later and/or return it earlier.
Can I return the bike after closing time?
No it is not possible to return the bike(s) after closing time. Only for large groups are exceptions possible by agreement.

If I return my rented bike early, can I receive a refund?
You will not receive a refund once you return the bike early. Exceptions excepted.
How does bike collection work?
After your online reservation, you can pick up your bike during opening hours. With your booking confirmation, please report to the counter. After this, we will issue the rented items to you as soon as possible.
How does collection and returns work on Sundays and public holidays?

On Sundays, we are open from 10:00 to 12:00 to pick up or rent bikes. Returns can be made on these days until 17:00 or 18:00, depending on our opening hours.

Will you come and return your bike on Sunday afternoon if we are not there yet? Then you can leave your bike on our square and put the keys in the letterbox. You may then leave any accessories with the bike.

We are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. If you would like to rent a bike then, please contact us by e-mail ([email protected]) and then together we'll see if we can find a solution to that.

All other official days we are open according to our normal hours. For example, Sunday Whit Sunday we are open from 10:00 to 12:00 for bike pick-up and on Monday Whit Monday we are there from 8:30 to 18:00

Is the bike insured?
No, but you can always check with your own travel insurance if rental items are included in the insurance. All our bikes are equipped with an approved lock and, if required, you can also get a lock-in chain from us.

How can I reserve a bicycle (or bicycles)?

Is there still availability?

Can I reserve a bike for several days?
Absolutely. While booking, you choose your desired rental period - from one day to several weeks.

I would like to renew, how do I do that?

To renew, you may drop by the shop or contact us by phone at 0222-327027. We will then check whether your hired items are still available, if so we will arrange this for you on the spot.

Can I still change my reservation?
Yes, please feel free to contact us by e-mail ([email protected]) if it will be a while before you come and call us if your reservation is within 48 hours (0222-327027). In many cases, it is possible to change bikes or adjust the period.
Do I get a discount if I rent for multiple days?
Yes, we have a special weekly price. This means that if you rent the bicycle for 4 days, you will receive a maximum of 3 additional days free of charge from us. This must be for a consecutive period.

I would like to cancel, how do I do that?

Should you wish to cancel far in advance, please send an email to [email protected] with your reason for cancellation. If you want to cancel on the first rental day or up to two working days before, please call us. According to our cancellation policy (www.fietsverhuurdekoog.nl/huurvoorwaarden/) we will process your request and any refund.

How do I know which size bike to book?

On our reservation page you will find an overview of lengths and corresponding bike sizes. If you come here and the size is not right, we will change the bike, if it is in stock.

Is the e-bike fully charged when I pick it up?
Yes, the e-bike is fully charged on collection.

What is the minimum age to rent an e-bike?

The minimum age to rent an e-bike from us is 13 years. We expect the parent(s)/carer(s) to only let these children ride e-bikes who can handle them responsibly enough.

What is the range of the e-bike?
The range is determined by many different factors, think of wind, driving behaviour, weight, etc. Generally, people ride an average of 30-40 km in a day and with normal use it will not go empty. If you want to put a ‘heavier’ load on the bike, you can also opt for our luxury Kalkhoff e-bike, which is equipped with a larger battery.

Disabled people

What do you have for disabled to rent?

In rental, we have the following rental items:

  • Mobility scooter
  • Electric tricycle
  • Rickshaw (day rental only)
  • Rollator
  • Walking scooter with saddle
  • Electric duo bike (expected in 2026)
Can anyone hire disabled items?
No, we only rent the mobility scooter and electric tricycle to people with experience. The rickshaw and electric duo bike should have a good capable driver.

What kind of mobility scooter do you have?

We have the four-wheeled Lion4 from Mango Mobility. The range is between 20 and 40 km, depending on use. The mobility scooter goes 20kmh, making it perfect for riding an electric bike.

Is the mobility scooter insured?

Yes, the mobility scooter is third-party insured. However, you do have an excess of 200 euros.

How do I know which size children's bike to reserve?

On our reservation page is an overview with lengths and corresponding bike sizes. At home, you can always check the tyres to see what size it is. If you come here and the size is not right, we will change the bike, if it is in stock.

Do you have e-bikes for children?

We rent e-bikes to children aged 13 and over with sufficient height. We expect the parent(s)/carer(s) to only let these children ride e-bikes who can handle them responsibly enough.

VFor younger children, we recommend an electric (parent-child) tandem.

Are child seats available?

Yes, we have rear seats for children for hire. The straps are adjustable, so children from +/- 1 year to +/- 5 years (max. 22kg) can be transported in these.

There are no seats available for older children; for them, we recommend a parent-and-child tandem.

The rear seat can be fitted to all bicycles with a luggage rack, but not in combination with a child or dog trailer.

How many children can fit in a pram?
There can be 1 or 2 children in the pram and some luggage in the back.
What is the maximum load weight of a baby trailer?

The maximum load weight is 45 kg, this includes luggage.

Do you have (electric) cargo bikes for children?
Yes we have (electric) cargo bikes for children for rent. We have an electric cargo bike from Urban Arrow, standard suitable for three children. From Bakfiets.nl we have the Cargo Long with and without assistance. Standard suitable for two children. Optionally, a rain cover can be rented.
Is my baby safe in the cargo bike?
Yes, you can hire a ‘’Maxi-Cosi’’ adapter for the (electric) cargo bike. Bring your own ‘’Maxi-cosi’’ with you, you can easily click it into the adapter.

Can there be a baby in the pram?
The baby trailer is not suitable for small babies, children must be able to sit up independently. For babies, you can hire a cargo bike with a Maxi-Cosi adapter. However, you can hire a seat reducer for babies who are more advanced in their development.
Can I use the pushchair as a buggy?
No, this is not possible.
Can a kid's trailer go behind all your rental bikes?
Our child trailers are allowed behind all our e-bikes and city bikes. With the exception of electric bikes with 24” wheels.and therefore not behind tandems, mountain bikes and cargo bikes.
Can the pram be used behind your own bike?
Yes, this is allowed provided the clutch fits the rear axle of your bike. In general, this is not possible on bikes with a push axle (ATB) or e-bikes with a rear motor. You cannot reserve a loose cart in advance, but only at the shop. This is based on availability and a surcharge applies.
Is it allowed to have your own kids' cart behind your rental bike?
Yes, provided you bring your own rear axle coupling. If you have a frame attachment, this is not allowed. Your child trailer is allowed behind all our e-bikes and city bikes.
Will another child fit in the cargo bike besides my baby?
Yes this is possible, but there is not much room for the legs.
Can my dog go with my child in the cargo bike?
Your dog is allowed in the cargo bike of Bakfiets.nl together with your child. Absolutely no dogs may be transported in the Urban Arrow cargo bike.

Dogs

Do you have a dog basket for cycling?
Yes, we have from Basil a wicker dog basket, equipped with dome as standard. This is attached to the carrier of your (rental) bike.
Is the dog basket allowed on its own bike?
Yes this is allowed, provided it fits on your carrier. You cannot reserve a loose dog basket in advance, but only on the spot in the shop. This is based on availability and a surcharge applies.
What is the maximum load weight of the dog trailer?
The dog trailers are suitable for dogs up to 35kg. For large, heavier and/or multiple dogs, we recommend a cargo bike.
Do you have (electric) cargo bikes that the dog is allowed in?

Yes, dogs are allowed in cargo bikes with a wooden box (Bakfiets.nl) with two wheels. This is permitted in combination with a child who can sit independently on the bench. Please note, a canopy/cover cannot be fitted in this configuration.

If the dog goes in alone, there is an option to rent a hay rack so that he/she cannot jump out. This cargo bike is available with and without electric assist.

We also have a three-wheeled electric cargo bike. This comes with a crate as standard and is suitable for large/heavy dogs. It cannot accommodate a child.

Do you have different sizes of dog carts?

No, we only have one size dog trailer. This is the DoggyRide Original.

Our dog trailers are allowed behind all our e-bikes and city bikes. With the exception of electric bikes with 24” wheels.and therefore not behind tandems, mountain bikes and cargo bikes.
Is the dog trailer allowed behind its own bike?

Delivery / breakdown en route

Do you also deliver bicycles?

Yes, if it is really not possible for you to collect your reserved items from us, we have a delivery service. Please enquire about the conditions. Please note: due to limited possibilities, this is only on request via e-mail [email protected]. For groups, we also offer on-site delivery, including tailored service.

What if I have bad luck on the way?

During opening hours, we can be reached by phone for our Breakdown on the way. We will then come to your location to help you as soon as possible. Provided, however, that we can reach it with the service bus.

On Sunday afternoons, we are always closed, but we are available by phone for breakdowns on the road.

We are not available by telephone on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

What to do in case of damage?

If you have damage to the bike, report it to us as soon as possible. The damage must always be paid to us on the spot. If you did not cause the damage yourself and you know who the other party is. Make sure you can recover the damage from them.

What to do in case of dieftstal?

Search your surroundings first, if you cannot find the bike please report it to us as soon as possible. And hand over the key(s) to us. We may ask you to report the theft to the police. If you cannot hand over the keys, you will have to pay us for the bicycle.
